A beautiful smile is not designed in a single appointment. At Blessing + Vogel, Dr. Blessing follows a thoughtful, highly personalized process that gives you the opportunity to see, experience, and refine your new smile before your final porcelain restorations are placed. Each stage of the process helps to improve your oral health/bite function while enhancing your unique features and facial anatomy and natural beauty.
First Visit: Consultation
Your first visit begins with a comprehensive consultation and examination. We evaluate your oral health and existing dental work while taking the time to understand what you like about your smile, what you would like to change, and how you envision your final result. We then capture detailed facial and intraoral photographs along with a 3D scan of your current smile. Together, these create the digital foundation for designing your new smile.
We collaborate closely with our ceramists to develop a digital model based on your anatomy and aesthetic goals for your future smile. Your preferences for the color, shape, size, and overall character of your restorations are incorporated into the design while carefully considering how your teeth relate to your lips, facial proportions, and surrounding features. The goal is not simply beautiful teeth, but a smile that looks naturally and effortlessly at home within your face.
Second Visit: Your In-Office Smile Test Drive
At your second visit, we review the proposed design for your new smile before bringing it to life through an in-office Smile Test Drive. We place a removable material over your teeth, allowing you to see the potential shape and proportions of your new smile in your mouth. In many cases, you can wear the Smile Test Drive for a few hours, giving you an opportunity to experience the design before committing to treatment. The material is then carefully removed without damaging your natural teeth.
Once you are happy with the design and treatment plan, we can prepare your teeth for their restorations. We remove the minimal amount of natural tooth structure necessary to achieve your aesthetic goals and create a healthy environment for the new restorations. Existing crowns, veneers, or fillings that do not fit the new treatment plan may also be removed.
After preparation, we take another precise 3D scan and place temporary restorations based on your approved smile design. These temporaries are much more than placeholders: they become a working model for your final smile. As you wear them, they can be further customized to optimize your smile’s appearance, comfort, function, and overall orofacial harmony.
Third Visit: Temporary Smile Approval
After you have lived with your temporary smile for several days, you return to tell us how it looks, feels, and functions in everyday life. We carefully evaluate your feedback and make additional refinements. Once you love the temporaries, we take detailed photographs and a 3D scan of them and select final porcelain shades together. This information is then communicated to our ceramist, allowing the temporary smile you have experienced and approved to serve as the guide for crafting your final porcelain restorations.
Fourth Visit: Your Final Smile
During your fourth visit, your temporary restorations are removed, and your custom porcelain restorations are individually bonded to your teeth. We carefully evaluate the details of your completed smile and make minor tweaks to ensure the bite and function of it are comfortable, while fitting seamlessly within your face. Finally, we take a 3D scan of your new smile to create a custom night guard. Wearing your night guard while you sleep provides additional protection and helps safeguard your investment.
